Installation Requirements

For safe use, frames must be installed on a flat and level surface.

Do not install on hard surfaces such as paving, concrete or decking. Use only on firm, level ground. Loose gravel, rocks or wood are not suitable surfaces.

Designed for domestic use. Our monkey bars is meant to be enjoyed at home with family and friends.

Great setup for busy and active kids! Overall happy with the item and my kids are loving it! Only issue is the quality of the powder coating isn’t great and flakes off in multiple areas. Communication has also been a bit of a challenge.

Thank you so much for your review and for sharing a photo. We’re really glad to hear your kids are loving their Rere and getting plenty of use out of it!

Regarding the powder coating, when we looked into this with you, the flying fox had unfortunately been installed without the required supporting beam. This meant there was excessive downward pressure placed directly on the bar, which isn’t how the system is designed to function. As a result, when the kids were sliding, the swing was scraping against the bar, which caused the coating to wear and flake in those areas.

Once we identified this, we provided guidance straight away via Messenger (as we had been communicating instantly through Marketplace), and explained how to correctly install the support beam to prevent further pressure and friction.

When the frame isn’t assembled correctly (or instructions aren’t followed), it can place unintended pressure on certain components and cause issues. Scratches can also occur during assembly due to normal metal-to-metal contact and the nature of powder coating itself.

Importantly, cosmetic marks do not affect the strength, durability, or safety of the frame.

We first approached Maaki Bars after finding a new local business in March 2026. They responded immediately; were kind and showed manaakitanga. Absolute above and beyond customer service.

We placed the order. The package was available immediately. Delivered before the weekend. Boxes unpacked in no time.

Me, with no building experience at all, had the false sense of confidence to put the whole thing together myself! It was so simple and I worked into the night! Suffice to say, I had to pull in a few of the big guns in to put the last bits together during daylight hours. I would say 2 people could put it together, but at least 3-4 would have it up in no time!

And that's when the chaos ensued.

The kids were on it. The adults were on it. Laughter filled the air! Even the baby jumped in the baby swing seat for a go! It was the beginning of the end.

Along came winter. Rain. Wind. Strangely sunny days. And rain again. And not one day has gone by where I've been able to sit on the couch with the kids. Those days ended when Maaki Bars came in our backyard. I'm outside, pushing the kids back and forth. I watch them swing from the monkey bars and fly on the flying fox. People come to visit and they also have to have a go! And now the baby is growing into a toddler demanding to go outside no matter the weather, to have a go on the swing!

So please. Read this review as a word of warning. If you are not willing to support a company in Ōtautahi where the stuff is ready to go the next day, want something that's super easy to put together that kids could've done it, and be outside rain, hail or shine to listen to hours of laughter, this is not for you.

But in all seriousness. We couldn't recommend a better jungle gym. Owning it for the last 6 months has been hours of fun for our whānau and we have genuinely used it nearly every day! Especially when it doubles as a washing line!

PS. If Maaki Bars ever wants to add a separate slide I would reluctantly purchase that too!
